Say Thank You to MLC’s Great Staff
The holidays are already upon us and soon winter break will be here. So now is the time for the MLC tradition of giving Holiday Baskets to the dedicated teachers and staff who work with our children and make this school uniquely wonderful. Just prior to our Solstice celebration each teacher and staff member will receive a decorated gift basket filled with donated items from our families. Treats, candy, individually wrapped home-baked items, cards, coffee, tea, small gifts, small $ value gift cards or handmade crafts/jewelry are all perfect. We want to ensure everyone is recognized so “To Anyone” items are appreciated. Drop off items in the Library any time December 14 through the morning of December 19. Please make sure your name is attached in case we need to contact you. The baskets will be delivered the afternoon of December 19th. If you have questions or are able to help put together the baskets please contact Kristin Cole at bkcole[at]hevanet.com.
Another award for MLC
I am happy to announce that the MLC high school has received a Bronze Award from U.S. News and World Report. This award is based on achievement data including proficiency standards and benchmarks and the degree that students are prepared for college-level work. 18,790 public high schools in 40 states were analyzed. One other Portland high school, Lincoln was also given the bronze award. More information is available on www.usnews.com. As in recent years, MLC has received an "Exceptional School" rating from the Oregon Department of Education. Congratulations to the whole community for their contribution. Frank

Ruth is famous!
Our own Ruth Frankel was a recipient of one of the two 2007 NW Examiner Community Awards for Education "In her 30-plus years as a parent, volunteer and staff member at Metropolitan Learning Center, no one has better exemplified the compassion, integrity and creativity of this institution. She has held nearly every position in the school, and is the first one called for special projects."
