2006-2007 Information
Kids Community Learning Center is a non-profit child care program for children aged 5 - 12 years old. Located in the rich, diverse environment of the Metropolitan Learning Center, the main purpose of the program is to provide care for children before and after the school day and during vacation periods.

Chapman students may attend our programs as excellent School Bus service exists to and from MLC. Children are brought to the school bus by their classroom teacher. Upon arrival at MLC, they are met by a teacher from KCLC. Please arrange for transportation through Chapman's office.

Look online for more info: www.pps.k12.or.us/schools-c/pages/mlc/about us/childcare.php.

The following programs are currently being offered:

AM Program: Daily between 7am and 8:30am for all ages. Quiet games and breakfast through the cafeteria is offered. A school bus may take children from MLC to Chapman.

PM Program: Daily after-school program for all ages 5 and up. Chapman kids are brought over by School Bus and met by KCLC staff. Children may be in Kindergarten through 6th grades. Many different activities are presented throughout the year. Art techniques are taught to older children and they in turn help teach the younger kids. Children create splendid eye-popping recycled sculptures, engage in variety of always available crafts projects(beads, clay, sewing, etc.), and many different plays and skits are practiced. Swimming is available through the MLC Pool. Kids play in Couch Park and also use the MLC gym.

Quiet time in the afternoon allows for homework and reading time.

Our goal is to provide a safe, stimulating, and relaxing environment for all children. Teachers are skilled in a variety of areas : art to yoga, storytelling to woodworking. Our approach is to provide an environment with many age-appropriate activities that are available to each child. Community is creating by older children helping younger ones in art projects, dramatic plays, and sports games. Teacher-student ratios are kept low to allow lots of individual attention.
